You can pull edges out to make a face and then you can texture it.

Before texturing:

Thats the colour before i added textures - it was grey, then I lifted up the edge and made a door.

After texturing:

Some areas were black and the texturing would sometimes work. 

Then I added a door texture.

Before texturing (for crowbar): 

This is what the face should look like normally, it's a grey colour.


After texturing: 

You can see a difference in the texture and normal colour - I used a steel texture for this which made it a light grey colour.
