How to guide

Creating different 3D modelled environments and objects

To start off with I opened up Maya. Then I started making my sci-fi door. To do this I went to poly modelling which is near curves/ surfaces and sculpting. Then I made a cuboid. I then pressed R and stretched the cuboid along 8 squares along on the left and right side.

This is when I pressed R - you drag the smaller cubes to change the size.

This is when i stretched it across.

I then stretched the cuboid upwards, two-three blocks high. Then I went to Mesh Tools and then insert edge loop. The I put an edge one square along on both sides. Then I right clicked and held it and dragged the arrow to faces. Then I clicked on the face on top where i had made the edge and then i held shift and clicked on the other face.

This is when i stretched the cuboid upwards.

This is when i made the edge loops.

This is when i clicked the face on top.

This is when i selected both faces.

Then i held shift and right clicked and then i went to extrude. Then i pulled the faces upwards. Then i went to Mesh Tools again and then to insert edge loop. Then i inserted an edge on the new shape i made.

This was after i extruded the face.

Thats how it looked when i inserted the edge loops.

Then i right clicked and went onto faces. I then selected the faces in the middle of my rectangle shape and then i pressed W and pulled the faces to the right to create another shape.

This is the rectangle and faces i was talking about

Then i pulled them to the right side, i did the same with the other side but pulled it left,  so it looked like this:

Then i went to Mesh Tools again and then insert edge loop and then put them on top like this:

Then i selected the parts in the middle, first i clicked on one bit then held shift and clicked on multiple ones, like this:

Then i held shift and right clicked and then went to extrude it, i pulled the faces outwards like this:

Then I created a roof for it, by right clicking and then going to edges and then I clicked on on of the edges at the top and pulled it across the top of the sci-fi door.

Then I created the door by right clicking and then going to edges and then I lifted the bottom part up and created a door. Then I right clicked again and when to object mode and then I clicked on the door and pressed ctrl D and copied it and then I lined all the doors up.

After doing that i right clicked again and when to edges and then clicked on the top of the corridor on the edge nearer to the next corridor, I made sure to space them out, then I pulled a roof over them all, connecting them together.

Next I copied the whole corridor by right clicking and then going to object mode and then ctrl D. Then I pressed E and rotated the corridor to connect with the other corridor but to make a second hallway. Then I went to mesh tools and then to insert edge loop and put on inside the corridor near the start and made the edge look like a door by putting one of the lines on one side to make a rectangle and then one along the top, I did this to the other side as well, which leads into another room.

I then right clicked and went to faces and then deleted the door outline one. Then I right clicked and went to edges again and then clicked on the edge at the bottom/flooring and dragged it out to create flooring for another room and made a flooring for the other corridor. Then I clicked on the roofs edge and dragged it out lifting it upwards so then I could add stairs to make a room upstairs.

Then I went to mesh tools and then insert edge loop and then i clicked on the front part of the spaceship on the new flooring near the end and made it the size I wanted my room behind my other room. Then I right clicked and went to edges and clicked on the edge I made and lifted it upwards and then I made another edge on the wall I made and then pulled it out by right clicking and going to edge and then I pulled the end of my new edge downwards then I made more edges on the higher wall to make another door.

I made a door using the edges again like I did last time and then I deleted certain edges to make it just have a door shape. Then I created some stairs.

To create the stairs I went to the polygons and then inserted a cuboid and then I pressed R and stretched the cuboid upwards and then I pushed it inwards then I went to mesh tools and inserted edge loops, spacing them out like stairs. Then I held shift and then right clicked and went to extrude and then I extruded some steps and then I made sure to compare it to the wall and floor before, to make sure it fitted and then I made the fencing.

To make the fencing for the new floor I got a cuboid and pressed R and pulled it upwards and then I pushed it inwards a bit and made a poll for the fence and then I pressed ctrl D and made more going all the way across my new floor and then I made another cuboid and this time I stretched it sideways and made it look like a poll. Then I put it through each of the polls I made to make it look like a fence.

Then I made the table and to do this I got out a cuboid and then pressed R and pull it outwards sideways and then pulled it a bit the other way to make it look like a table and then I pulled it downwards to make it flat like a table and then I went to mesh tool and then insert edge loop again and made a square shape in each corner of the table and then I right clicked and went to extrude and pull the square underneath to make the tables legs. I made two tables, I did this for the keyboard too, however I didnt need to insert edges since I didnt put legs on it.

Then I made a chair and to do this I did something similar like how I made the table but before making the legs I put an edge loop on top near the other edge to then extrude the seat and made the chair and it leaned over a bit so I dragged the edge down and made the seat look different. I then copied and pasted a bunch of chairs and lined them up together.

I then created two big pipes, to do this I go out a cylinder and then pressed R and pull out its face out and made it a bit bigger by pull one of the small cubes surrounding it out and then I inserted an edge loop in it and then pressed E and rotated it up a bit and then I made so it fitted the wall and ceiling. And then I copied it and pressed ctrl D.

I also created a solar system flooring and to do this I got a circle and stretched the whole shape out and then I made it flat by dragging it downwards. Then I made more circles and made each planet the size of how the other planets would be and put them in the order of how they are around the sun.

I then created alien tanks and to do this I made another cylinder and then right clicked and then went to assign new material and then changed the transparency of the shape and changed the colour to green and then I created another cylinder and made it shorter so it looked like the lid to the tank and made the colour grey and copied it and put one of the bottom and I made it slightly bigger than the tank to make it seem like a lid.

I then created pipes for the tanks, to make it look like they are getting the liquid for the tanks from somewhere so I copied the big pipes and made them smaller by pressing R and then I copied them for each tank since i made multiple ones and I pressed shift to select more to copy the whole thing and then I made them slightly transparent and made them green. Then I made a circle and stretched it to make it look like an egg and put it in the tanks that I lined up near the chairs.

I then made a computer by making a square and stretching it upwards and then making it thin like a computer and then I inserted more edge loops and made it the size I wanted the screen to be and then I made an edge at the bottom to make a stand for it and then I made the long part which connects the screen and stand together. Then I right clicked and went to faces and deleted them and then I pulled out some edges to cover the inside part and then I made another face to make the computer screen then i right clicked and went to faces and then I pressed shift and then right clicked and when to extrude. Then I extruded the face inwards, creating the computer.

I then went to edges and then I clicked on the edges that made up the door shape of my corridor and then I pulled them outwards to make the corridor longer. Then I inserted more edge loops along the side of the walls to create windows and then I clicked on the faces and deleted them so you still had bars covering it so it was like you are inside still but you could see the outside. Then I made the roof transparent and I did the same for the big room I made but this was the side of the roof and I made it green.

I then created two planets and to do this I created a circle and pressed R and made it big but for the other planet I copied the planet I made before which was Saturn since I made a ring for it as well and then I copied them and made them bigger.

Then I made lights for the doors so you knew if you could enter the door or not. To do this I got a cylinder and made it small then stretched it upwards and then coloured it green and copied them and then made one red. Then I made thought at the top but making a cuboid and stretching it to look like a rectangle and then inserting edge loops to make a smaller rectangle inside and then I extruded the face outwards a bit and coloured it green and copied it and then coloured one red.

I then made the crowbar, to make this I got a cube and made it small and then i stretched it upwards then inserted edge loops and bent them then made more to then delete the face in between to make the gap in between the crowbar. I did the same to the end of the crowbar but bent it the other way. Then I got two different textures for it a metal one for the two ends of the crowbar and a middle bit.

Then I textured everything and added monsters to the eggs and then adding textures to the planets and making a galaxy textured roof and adding door textures to two of the doors I made in the big room and then adding wall textures and tables ones and chair ones and then I added a screen of a computer to the computer screen.

I also added a few lights to my space corridor, to do that I went to create and then lights and made ones which point in one direction to make it brighter when its rendered.

Then to animate it youd click on the object and move it to where to want if and youd press S which creates a key frame. Then they'd build up to make an animation. And you make a camera to make it first person.

To make a camera you go to create and then camera and you choose the first camera and if you want to see what the camera sees you go to perspective which is near the scene you have made and then you can choose the camera or perspective.

Make sure to put the key frame sort of far away from each other or the animation will go quick.

To render you go to where it says modelling and then you change it to render.
Then you go to render at the very top and then to render settings it should look like this:
Make sure to check what folder you save it in and then make sure to put the end frame in - so where your animation ends on the last frame.

Then you close it and then go to render again and then to batch render.

Then you go to the place you have saved your files to and they should all appear there.

Then you go to fcheck and then when it's open you click on file, open sequence and then click on your first image. Then itll play your animation you then go to file again and then save as movie.

I also added sound to my video later by getting sound effects from YouTube and then editing it on premiere pro.
